Water and Wastewater Treatment
Seair's patented diffusion system utilizes ozone as the main mode of disinfection for water and wastewater sources. It is extremely efficient in removing all bacteria, viruses and heavy metals from water supplies creating an ideal source of drinking water. The Seair system can also treat wastewater to the highest discharge standards, making it suitable for recycling into other operations.
The Seair Process primarily consists of:
Primary Ozone treatment using our patented diffusion technology to sterilize the waste water source.
Aeration using intense oxygenation to promote natural decomposition of organic matter.
And
Secondary Ozone treatment to ensure the resulting effluent is completely safe for recycling or discharge.
Why use Ozone?
The intense oxidizing power of ozone makes it ideal for destroying any of the organic matter and pathogens commonly found in municipal wastewater as well as any hazardous chemicals found in industrial wastewater. The byproducts of Ozonation are water, oxygen and carbon dioxide, making the process virtually odour free. It also eliminates the need for additional harmful chemicals and long digestion times.
Combining Ozonation with oxygen ensures complete treatment of large amounts of wastewater. Our patented Seair system increases dissolved oxygen levels up to 500% above supersaturation. This dissolved oxygen stays stable in the solution longer creating a highly aerobic environment, promoting the natural decomposition of organic matter at an accelerated rate, keeping treatment times to a minimum.
What about pH Control?
If your wastewater requires pH control, the Seair Diffusion System is also highly effective in dissolving C0 2 in water, which lowers and maintains pH levels in order to ensure effluent suitable for discharge. This replaces the need for dangerous acids with a safe, effective process for lowering pH.
Advantages of the Seair Systems
Produce superior quality water eligible for use in irrigation or recycling
Chemical free
Easily added to existing infrastructures
Can be constantly monitored for quality assurance
Low operating costs

Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants
Seair can provide end-to-end wastewater treatment for municipalities of up to 20,000 residents or for isolated communities. Through the use of our diffusion system and innovative wastewater treatment process, we offer a cost effective and efficient alternative to traditional wastewater treatment methods.
The use of ozone and oxygen in our wastewater treatment plants ensures organic material is safely and effectively broken down into harmless by-products. Seair’s municipal-scale wastewater treatment facilities have many advantages over conventional systems, including:
- Negligible disinfection by-products (compared to chlorine-based disinfection)
- No anaerobic odours
- No membranes
- Minimal consumable products
- Low energy requirements
- High quality effluent suitable for irrigation
- Low maintenance
- Minimal chemical handling
A typical large scale Seair wastewater treatment facility uses the same process as our highly successful portable wastewater treatment plants, with the addition of nutrient removal.
Seair Treatment Process
Our patent-pending treatment process consists of a three step tertiary treatment system:
- Primary ozone treatment - breakdown of fats, oils, grease, and macromolecules into soluble organic compounds;
- Secondary oxygen/biological treatment - use of concentrated oxygen or aeration to promote biological degradation of soluble organic matter; and
- Tertiary ozone treatment – oxidization of any remaining organics and disinfection of the effluent ensuring it is completely safe for recycling or discharge

Either biological or chemical nutrient removal systems can be readily incorporated into the above design.
Combining ozonation with biological treatment ensures complete treatment of large volumes of wastewater in a small footprint design. Efficient gas use and the ability of Seair’s diffusion system to create a stable, supersaturated state minimize the required treatment time.
Seair Municipal Wastewater Pilot Project
Seair’s initial municipal wastewater treatment system installation is at The Village at Wolf Creek, a picturesque 130 lot development at Wolf Creek Golf Resort near Ponoka, Alberta. The Seair wastewater treatment system is designed to provide end-to-end wastewater treatment, including nutrient removal, for water reuse on the golf course. The system is designed as follows:
- Dual train system ensuring reliability and redundancy
- Design loading of 100,000 gallons per day (25,000 gallon nominal flow)
- High quality effluent, design standards:
- BOD < 10
- TSS < 10
- PO4 < 1
- NH3 < 1
- 100% recycle of water for use on golf course
- Minimal footprint

Augmentation of Existing Treatment Systems
Seair diffusion systems are also very successful in supplementing or replacing various stages or components of conventional treatment systems. Any process or system requiring aeration or water treatment is a prime candidate for retrofit with a Seair diffusion system. Advantages of Seair systems are:
- Superior quality water;
- Easily added to existing infrastructures;
- Minimal power requirements;
- Low operating costs;
- Efficient use and diffusion of gases; and
- Low maintenance.
For example, a Seair diffusion tower has been installed at a lift station in Airdrie, Alberta to augment their existing system. Seair and the City of Airdrie are working together in order to:
- Aerate a 18 km force main that delivers sewage from Airdrie to Calgary’s municipal system;
- Equip a new lift station with an SA 400i to diffuse pure oxygen into sewage just prior to entering the force main;
- Increase dissolved oxygen (DO) levels for an extended period of time; thereby reducing H2S and odor and allowing for some aerobic digestion;
- Reduce the load on the Calgary municipal wastewater treatment system through inline pretreatment en route.
