Seair Diffusion Systems has a number of applications in the pulp and paper industry. Our large-scale diffusion systems are ideal for dramatically increasing dissolved oxygen (DO) content in pulp and paper mill aeration ponds. Seair’s efficient atmospheric diffusion is capable of raising pond DO levels well above levels obtained from traditional aeration equipment, increasing mill productivity and drastically reducing power consumption.

Seair systems often fit directly inline with existing infrastructure and are designed to complement or replace existing aeration systems. Our diffusion towers are available for large scale aeration of ponds and are capable of delivering up to 5,000 US gallons/min (19,000 L/min) of supersaturated fluid through the diffusion of up to 500 SCFM (14,000 L/min) of atmospheric air (SA 1200).
Seair pulp and paper treatment systems can also use ozone to accelerate organic material decomposition, leading to decreased treatment timeframes and scaled up production.
In addition, Seair’s equipment requires a fraction of the power supply as compared to conventional coarse and fine bubble diffusers and industrial aeration blowers. Our equipment has been tested and installed in pulp and paper mills in Western Canada. Seair customers have realized over an 80% reduction in power usage, compared to the coarse bubble aerators that the Seair system replaced. Our diffusion systems ensure that target dissolved oxygen levels are met and maintained with minimal power usage.
High DO levels are required in pulp and paper industrial ponds in order to:
- Achieve and maintain compliance with discharge standards;
- Convert anaerobic ponds to aerobic conditions; facilitating remediation through biological activity;
- Increase production by allowing more efficient and longer use of higher value hardwood feedstock; and
- Reduce odour.

Our systems elevate DO levels in aeration ponds to unprecedented levels. The resulting increase in DO has two effects on improved water quality:
- Reduces Chemical Oxygen Demand by promoting oxidation of organic matter; and
- Reduces Biological Oxygen Demand through the facilitation of bacterial growth and its subsequent metabolism of organic material.
Seair’s Diffusion systems provide an environmentally friendly and economical treatment method well-suited for large-scale effluent pond aeration. The reduction of power usage and high utilization rate of gases make Seair an emerging industry leader in pulp and paper pond treatment applications.
